Jerichow

This ancient Russian military hospital, situated in the former DDR, is a collection of old residential villas from the end of the 19th century. With the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Wall, it was no longer needed and, in 1990s, the Russian military deserted the place. Some of the buildings have been partially renovated and are still used as a hospital but the rest has been boarded up and left to nature and time. Most of the glass is broken; tiles and wallpaper are falling from the walls; dampness has clothed the walls in a grey patina; trees force their way through fissures even in the walls.
The years of abundance have changed this place into a kingdom of nostalgia and melancholy.
